Dr Andreas Vassiliou

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Dr Andreas Vassiliou is a Counselling Psychologist and Existential Psychotherapist. He has studied and trained in the Social Sciences, Psychology, and Psychotherapy, and holds a doctoral degree in Existential Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy. He is an accredited Psychotherapist and Counselling Psychologist in the United Kingdom and Cyprus, with registration and accreditation from recognised professional bodies (UKCP, HCPC, BPS, UPCA, SEPS). His clinical work focuses on the subjective experience of psychological suffering, the person’s relation to their symptom, and to experiences or events that have not yet found a place in speech and continue to insist outside of meaning. Psychotherapy, as he approaches it, constitutes a space of speech in which, through time and the therapeutic encounter, what is at stake for the person in therapy may begin to emerge, together with the way in which distress is taken up and lived. Since 2008, he has worked across a range of clinical and educational settings in the United Kingdom and Cyprus, including the UK National Health Service, psychiatric services, social welfare services, and higher education. He has extensive experience of clinical work with adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families, as well as experience in clinical and research supervision. He has also served as Assistant Professor of Psychology and Professional Practice Lead on the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology programme at Regent’s University London.
